Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Kyrie Irving, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard and Klay Thompson -- they're all on the @usabasketball 44-man preliminary roster for the Tokyo Olympics just officially announced ...

This list is disgusting. I can't imagine another country's team matching up against this much star power.
Can anyone give insight on teams like Serbia, Australia, etc?
[–]Raptors JevvyMedia 37
I can't imagine another country's team matching up against this much star power.
We have seen this multiple times for Team USA, yet they have found ways to lose.
In 18 Olympics, they have 15 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. I don't think that counts as them finding ways to lose. They have won the last 3 and 6 out of 7.

2012 gold medal game was close late in the 4th, and USA had KD, Lebron, Harden, Kobe, CP3, Carmelo.

Serbia, spain, australia, slovenia(if doncic plays) are all medal contenders, but have no chance against america at full strength
[–]Nets steadysoul 10
Two of the countries you listed haven't even qualified yet.
[–]Raptors WiseguyD 12
Cameroon, maybe? Are Siakam and Embiid joining Cameroon?
[–]Canada NAD_83 40
Cameroon didn't qualify.
Insight on team Aussie: NBA reddit/Twitter would get their rocks off to a lineup of Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, Matisse Thybulle, Ben Simmons and Aron Baynes
[–]Trail Blazers CursedLlama 191
Who from Spain is propelling them to contender status? In the past it's always been the Gasol brothers, but they seem to be getting older as of late.
[–][LAL] Nick Van Exel A_Work_In_Progress23 237
Marc, Rubio, Fernandez(while getting old, still a force to be reckoned with), and just a bunch of gritty, reliable role players like oriola, juancho hernangomez
Also they have such a tradition of being a force, that im not counting them out until they are truly done.
Probably will be one of the older teams at the olympics, but so much experience playing together is also their strength
But also, silver and bronze are pretty much open season, especially when it gets to a knockout phase. Lithuania and latvia could easily sneak in as well
add mirotic, lull and ibaka to that list maybe? they are still force if with complete roster
[–]Trail Blazers CursedLlama 124
Holy crap I forgot Serge played for Spain, and Mirotic also. Spain has some really good NBA players, and I rate Hernangomez pretty highly.
The role players and bench players on the US are going to as good or better than the best players on other teams outside of Luka, Giannis, and Embiid though. The talent disparity is crazy.
Well, Spain won the world cup, so being in the contender group is a reasonable assumption, although not as favourites. The team is very solid and well coached. The leaders will be Marc and Ricky, but there’s plenty of veteran NBA & Euroleague players for Spain to bring a good team to the Olympics
LeBron and Steph potentially playing together for the first time ever is going to be amazing

Has Lebron confirmed he's going to play? That'll be crazy if he's in 5 Olympics
[–]Eric_Nathan_Fielder 115 指標 14小時前
That would be his 4th I think. He skipped 2016
[–]Huskies OmniscientwithDowns 53
Idk if he will but I remember in 2017 when Pop was announced as Coach of the olympic team that he and lebron talked after a game about him going.
Lebron has always respected the hell out of Pop and since its speculated that he's retiring after the Olympics i dont think Lebron passes up the chance to play for him.
Stephen Curry Kawhi Leonard Kevin Durant LeBron James Anthony Davis
Damian Lillard James Harden Klay Thompson Paul George Bam Adebayo
Barring injuries these are the first 10 players I would go with. The last two spots are tough as hell and I would probably go with either Westbrook, Lowry or Butler for 1 spot and Draymond, Harrell or Howard for the other.
Regardless I really want to see the starting 5 of Curry, Bron, Whi, KD and AD share the floor together.
[–][ATL] Trae Young JayNew2K[ ] 48
Last two spots go to Butler and Draymond for me. They have a history with the team and are excellent on the defensive end which is important in international basketball. Both are also somewhat viable from three and with the shorter 3PT line you don’t need Dame or Lowry trying to bomb from 30+ feet.
If everyone accepts the invites, that'd give a starting 5 of... Curry, Harden, Butler, LeBron, AD? With KD, Dame, and Klay off the bench?
Sure, they're a bit small, but that's ridiculous.
[–]Trail Blazers CursedLlama 211
There's no way KD doesn't start, IMO. It'd probably be Curry, Harden, LeBron, KD, AD.
[–][LAL] Brandon Ingram xElectricW 52
Yeah that’s what it would have to be, no reason for Jimmy to start over KD and at the 3 which is his and LeBron’s position
KD is coming back from injury, and there's no telling how comfortable he's gonna be out there. Personally I'd put Kawhi over Butler as the starting 5
There's no way kd should risk it. He should take his time to recover
[–][LAL] Brandon Ingram xElectricW 51
Kawhi ain’t playing on a goddamn USA team lol
[–]Rockets TheHalfbadger 31
He will if we start the narrative that this one’s for Kobe.
[–]Canada NAD_83 31
I think Lowry makes it. He actually showed up to USA training camp last summer despite being injured, and Pop probably appreciates that and will take it into consideration.
[–]Celtics SquimJim 19
There are like 6 highly deserving PG's on that list and i doubt they take more than 3. So 3 of Kyrie, Dame, Kemba, Lowry, CP3, and Steph probably won't be on the team. Presumably, this would be the last chance for Lowry and CP3, so my guess is that Pop makes some sort of priority for them
This is probably Kemba's only chance, and if anyone gets special treatment despite not being the most talented, I'd hope it's him for being the only star to actually play for Team USA last year.
Derrick white over way better Guards lmfaooo
If you played in the world cup you automatically made this cut
They got 7th... None of them should be guaranteed.
[–]Magic nolessss 67
They deserve it for at least being willing to play
[–]Thunder Your_Personal_Jesus 923 指標 16小時前
Man Coangelo and Pop weren't playing when they said guys like Trae and Fox who left the camp last year early wouldn't get invited back.
[–]Hawks DBac7812 28
That's not true, cus Harrell left early and he is here.
[–]Hawks KTurnUp 304
Trae was injured and Pop was gonna put his boy Derrick White on the team anyway
The fuck is Javale doing on that list? lol
[–]Clippers jajaxaxajaja 249
The fuck is Kuzma doing on that list? lol
Kyle Kuzma has so much undeserved clout by playing for the Lakers lol
[–]Lakers markmyredd 234
I think its just Pop returning the favor. He stayed with Team USA right before getting injured. Doesn't mean he will make the final roster anyway.
[–]Lakers Otharp 22
He did well at last year's camp, and was one of the few that was comitted until he got injured, pretty sure Pop is giving him a chance just for that reason.
Also, I don't really think he's a terrible player like most people on here, he's not being utilized well currently, and he has 0 chemistry with Rondo.
